ALICE MARIE'S FAMILY WISHES TO INVITE ALL FRIENDS AND RELATIVES TO A FUNERAL DINNER SATURDAY, BEFORE THE FUNERAL SERVICE AT NOON, AT ST. PAUL'S LUTHERAN CHURCH IN RINGSTED. Alice Marie was born October 5th, 1924. She passed away Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong. She was the youngest daughter of Daniel and Ida Sorensen. She had two brothers, Arnold and James, and a sister Edna. They were all raised on a farm 2 miles east of Ringsted. Alice Marie was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was educated for 8 years at Sunnyside Country School and graduated from Ringsted High School in 1942. She attended Dana College in Blair Nebraska majoring in music. She was very fond of music and began playing the piano at 5 years of age, before she began taking piano lessons. She sang in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Choir for 8 years. On July 27, 1947, she was married to Leo Sorensen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. After marriage Alice Marie joined St. John's Lutheran Church. She became one of the church organists and played for 38 years. She taught Sunday School at St. John's for 15 years. She enjoyed taking an active part in St. John's committees, teaching in Vacation Bible School and singing in the choir. Alice Marie and Leo were married for 58 years, until Leo's death in 2005. They farmed 1 ¾ miles east and one mile south of Ringsted from 1947 to 1985. Alice Marie enjoyed farm life; raising poultry, driving tractor for harvest, gardening, canning pickles and jams, and baking. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and Danish-American Fellowship. Alice Marie and Leo moved into town at Ringsted in 1997. She enjoyed town life until her failing health led her to move to Rosewood Manor in Estherville Iowa in March 2002 and then to Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong Iowa in May 2006. She peacefully passed away on December 30, 2006. Alice Marie is survived by two children, Ruth Krishnan and husband Santosh of St. Paul, MN and their children: Sonya and Sarita; Robert Sorensen and wife Teresa, and their children Carrie, Rachel, and Shannon; sister-in-laws Alice Sorensen of Ringsted, Cora Fagre and husband Roland of Loveland, Co; Joan Jensen of Ankeny, IA, Ruth Connett of Pasadena, CA; and brother-in-law Harold Sorensen and wife Carol Ann of Albuquerque NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter Linda, daughter Rita; sister Edna and brothers Arnold and James. INTERMENT St. John's Lutheran Cemetery Ringsted
