Alida Voorhees Davis

Alida Voorhees Davis, age 86, a longtime resident of Media and more recently of Glen Mills, died peacefully on August 10, 2025.  Alida was the beloved wife of Howard Lester Davis Jr. for sixty-six years and leaves behind a wonderful legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

 Born in Trenton, NJ, Alida was the daughter of the late Martha (nee Bausman) and Raymond Voorhees. After graduating from Council Rock High School in 1956, Alida married Howard and settled in Media, PA where they raised their children and resided for over 50 years. Alida embraced motherhood and took great care in raising her three boys.  As they grew older, she returned to school and obtained her bachelor’s degree from Neumann College in 1986.  

 Alida worked as the Assistant Director for Transitional Housing Services of Eastern Delaware County and later became a social worker with Chester Care Center.  She was active in her community and in Media Presbyterian Church where she was a member since 1974. She became an ordained elder and trustee in 1985 and served as the Clerk of Session from 1991-1997.  Alida was an integral part of the Media Little League Women's Auxiliary from 1970-1980 and served on the Philadelphia Presbytery Homes and Services for the Aging Board of Directors from 1996-2001.  

 Alida happily dedicated most of her free time to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, playing bridge and golf. 

 She is survived by her husband, Howard, and her children H. Chris Davis (Mindy) of Media PA, Eric Davis (Michelle) of Moorestown, NJ, and Coert Davis (Brigitte) of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rebecca Weber (Peter), Katie Warnell (John), Todd Davis (Alyssa), Ben Davis (Katie), Jack Davis, Jacob Davis, & Alexandra Davis as well as seven great-grandchildren.

 Alida's services will be on August 23, 2025 at Media Presbyterian Church, 30 E. Baltimore Ave., Media, PA 19063.  Family will receive visitors in the church at 10 am.  A Celebration of Life will begin at 11 am followed by lunch at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alida’s name can be made to the Media Presbyterian Church.
