HOLST, Alison Entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, Alison Joye Holst. She was born on July 21, 1974, in Charleston, the daughter of Jean Alison Mehrtens and WIlliam Edward Holst, Jr. Alison graduated from Wando High School in 1992 and East Tennessee State University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in sociology. After graduation she worked as a social worker in Lenoir, NC for Caldwell County Department of Social Services where she was an untiring advocate for the unprotected children of the county. Alison loved her family, her friends, and held a special place in her heart for her two pugs, Szechy and MaLee. They reluctantly complied with her penchant for costuming. The pugs, among the countless others Alison affected with her joyful spirit, will sorely miss her loving presence. All she touched were privileged to share her beautiful smile and sense of humor and will forever hold her in their hearts. Alison is survived by her mother, Jeanne Mehrtens Harrington, and her husband, Thomas; her other mother, Jean M. Holst; her sister, Debbie E. Holst, all of Mt. Pleasant, and her brother, Rich Moore and his wife Maureen of Arizona as well as her grandmother, Claire D. Mehrtens. She was predeceased by her father, William E. Holst, Jr. and her grandparents, Frances McKenzie and John Henry Mehrtens and Lottie McGrane and William Edward Holst, Sr. The relatives and friends of Alison Joye Holst are invited to attend her Memorial Service at 2:00 PM. Friday, October 17, 2008, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. this Thursday evening between 5:00 and 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Charleston Animal Society 2455 Remount Rd, North Charleston 29406 or to Crisis Ministries 573 Meeting St. Charleston, SC 29403. Arrangements by JAMES A. MCALISTER, INC., 766-1365. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

Not sure what to say?

To Alison's Family: I got to know Alison whenever she lived here in NC. Had some great times in her presence. She certainly loved her babies and was devastated over the loss of her Dad. She was a free soul and I will miss her. We talk of her often here on Lake Hickory.

Alison is sadly missed...her smile...her bubbly personality. Elaine and Jean were always there when she needed them. Her Pugs loved her dearly. So Jean, you are left to fight your battles for you & Ali- but we are here if you need.
Our Prayers are with you & Elaine forever

Jeanne-I know it's been forever since we've seen each other, but I wanted to let you know how sorry I am for your lost. Know that you're in my thoughts and prayers.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Alison's death. We worked together at Caldwell County Department of Social Services until she moved back to Charleston. Alison was such a passionate, spirited, outspoken young lady! She provided much joy and laughter to those around her and will be deeply missed! Alison, I know you are with your father now and are finally at peace! God Bless!

Jeannie,

I am so very saddened to hear of your daughter's death. I am sorry not to be able to get to any of the services. I pray she is at peace and that you and Thomas in time will be reconciled to her death.

My deepest sympathy regarding your terrible loss. I knew Alison for a short time when she lived in Johnson City TN. My prayers are with you and your family.
