Not sure what to say?

Allan, it was a pleasure to have known you! Though I never had you as a teacher you were a beloved teacher and friend to all! You didn´t have to be one of your students to know who you were. You made such wonderful connections even through the years long after we graduated. You attended reunions and made yourself a part of our lives. I hear today is your birthday and I wanna wish you one in heaven and to thank you for always treating everybody like they mattered. It was a joy to have known...

I had shared a memory previously, but as this came in my inbox today, I wanted to share that I think of him often, typically when something is said that reminds me of stories he related when I was in his German class. A specific story that came to mind just this week is of a family that raised their child to speak three languages. The mother spoke French and German, the father spoke Spanish and German (it could have been French and Italian, but you get the idea), so they decided that the...

Allan has been our neighbor for several years and when we had our chats he always talked about his own children, and his student children, he was proud of them all. You could always feel an immense sense of pleasure with his biological children's accomplishments, and teaching his students a second language and opening a gateway to another culture. We will miss his wry sense of humor, his "it is what it is" approach to life, and of course his peace sign every time he drove by. May he rest in...

Herr Brown was an excellent influence during my years at OCHS. His friendly and funny demeanor ensured I was in class more often. I was attend-tion deficit in those years. The last time I saw him was when I graduated. We were standing in line outside the venue waiting to take our seats and he was handing out our fake scrolls. My brother standing in front of me and my friend behind me both got handed scrolls, as Herr Brown walked down the line. "Herr Brown" I said, with an inquisitive look on...

I have very fond memories of Allan - somehow always catching the same flight in SLC on the way up to L&C, great Guten Tag tutor and German language mentor, Studentenstadt and Muenchen activities, brunch in Lake Oswego. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

For 20 years, I had the privilege of working with Herr Brown. He was a friend, colleague & constant source of humor and mischief. His biggest source of pride were his children. A lot of conversations about Claire´s rowing & his pride in knowing Alex, right of of college, was earning more than he was. He would sometimes come to chat with students or just wander in with a Powerball ticket or one of those gold-wrapped German chocolates - if you teach/taught at OC, you know the ones. He will be...

Herr Brown was my German teacher throughout highschool. At first I remembered wanting to take a different class, but the moment I stepped into his classroom a sense of family and meaning spread through with the words he spoke. His passion drove me to pursue the German language and I loved it, he even taught my cousin who I lived with as he went into highschool. I'll always be shocked that I won't see his smile again with his greetings. But I will cherish the memories he gave and will always...

Herr Brown was my teacher for four years at OCHS, and I loved every second of class with him. I went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in German Language and Literature as a result of his engaging instruction, and I was able to spend 6 wonderful months in Berlin soaking up the language and culture of Germany--in a World Cup year hosted there, no less! His leadership in my favorite extracurricular activities such as theater and international relations left an impression on me and I carry on his...

Herr Brown was my German teacher from `93-`96. His impact was truly significant. He was wonderful and personable; an interesting and interested teacher before and after graduation. He was one of my favorite teachers, ever. Thanks to his impact as a German teacher, I was able to live and work in Europe for many years with my wife and children. Language, as a barrier, was an afterthought to those experiences. I´m deeply saddened to hear of his passing and wish his family well. Teachers give so...
