Not sure what to say?

I was a member of the United States Army band (1966-69) during the time Alan Crowell was the choral director. Although I played the cello and had no direct work together with Alan, we all admired him tremendously. He was clearly the most gifted member of the staff, a person of great enthusiasm, warmth and charm, always friendly, always a pleasure to run into and chat with and of course, a very gifted musician and conductor. For 60 years, I´ve retained a warm and admiring memory of him. My...

Allen and I were classmates and roommates at Westminster Choir College in the 1950's. We both graduated in the summer of 1959 and moved to Washington DC, where I spent the next four years in the US Navy Band Sea Chanters, and Allen spent the next twenty years with the US Army Chorus, first as a chorus member, and later as conductor. I remember Allen as a good friend, and as an extremely talented musician and conductor. I will always be grateful to Allen for his promotion and performance of...

I was a first year high school teacher and took continuing education classes with Prof Crowell. He changed my life and I will never forget him and what I learned. I still remember his voice! I´m now retired but supervise student teachers for Westminster where he was beloved. Sincere condolences to his family.

Was stationed at Fort Myers with the Copt in the 70s as a member of The Old Guard.

I was in his very first choir at WCC. We used to joke with him and call him Major Mister Minor Allen Crowell. I loved singing under him. RIP to a great man that influenced many. -Pam Warrenburg Ramirez

Phyllis, this is Iris Lundy, bell lyre and tympani player while Allen and I were classmates for four years at Murphy. You may not remember but I played the piano for our chapel services and Allen led on our 50th class reunion. We were friends, but not group friends outside of school. I, like Allen, made my life with music having retired two years ago from my position as church organist, and school music/choral teacher. I kept up with Allen's career all through the years. And like all...

Allen and I were singing members of The United States Army Chorus in 1959-61, before he became TUSAC´s artistic conductor. At the time I considered him a special person, for his exceptional bass voice, his musicianship, his good humor and his intellect-all without a trace of pride or arrogance which too often accompanies talented persons. I left the army after my three year term and went to law school, and later law practice, but my time with my TUSAC fraternity has been one of my life´s...

I was saddened to hear of Professor Allen Crowell´s passing. He was not only a brilliant musician and conductor, but a generous mentor and an inspiring presence to so many of us at Westminster Choir College. I had the immense honor of studying under him, and his impact on my musical and personal life is something I carry with me to this day. Years later, when I returned to Westminster to conduct the Westminster Singers, I stepped into a role he had shaped with such grace, precision, and...

Mr. Crowell was one of my conducting professors during my graduate studies Westminster Choir College from 1987-89. He was a wonderful teacher, a kind person, and an absolute gentleman. I´m so grateful for his teaching. My deepest condolences to his family. May he assume his place in the heavenly choirs.
