Remember his name from Kerrville

First saw Allen at the 11th door where he would play often accompanied by Big Bill Moss. Only saw him once at The Checkered Flag. Only spoke to him once between sets but he was full of grace and humor. He was a gem that too few people had the opportunity to see and hear. Thank you Allen for educating my then young years acoustically in person.

I have Allen´s 12string guitar.

Just thinking about you tonight Allen...

I didn’t know you had passed away back in 2005 until a couple of years ago.

Somewhere along the line I drifted away from the great group of people that included you! You were such a wonderful singer & storyteller! You always excepted my children & me just as we were. You had an easy way with people, at least that was my experience knowing you. I am ever so grateful for having known you & for having You call me friend!

How to say what I feel about my Uncle Allen..my parents and him have so much love and history together. My Father ,Gordon Matter could tell you stories of their times together..and his music was more then poetry or words they were stories of Allen's life ..he was part of my Family and will always be ..and one day We will meet again and he will be singing ..dancing and playing guitar or banjo .smiling ,laughing and as always a love for all that God has given.

Miss you, brother...

I met Alan when I managed the Hays County Civic Center in San Marcos and he was performing at Chilympiad. The bond and admiration was instantly formed! I've never been one to follow an entertainer, preferring to let them come to me but I followed Alan. Most memorable of these were to Lock, Stock and Barrel in Austin and Rod Kennedy s Folk Life Festivals in Kerriville.
Being originally from Ft. Worth, every time I've met someone new and replied to the question Where are you from?,...

Allen Damron...man I really miss you. I will never forget going on a west Texas tour with you. First stop out of Austin was Terlingua. We arrived late at night. Allen was driving down a long, winding dirt road. Then pulls up in front of a place and says, "We are here". I had no idea where exactly "here" was. He said we were in Terlingua and we were going to stay at his friend's Art Eatman's. The next morning when I awoke and went outside, I was amazed at the beauty of Terlingua and Big...

Is there a heaven for balloons, my friend ... by now, I think that you should surely know.
Signed: Someone from the 11th Door.
