Springfield, IL—Allen R. Daugherty, 77, of Springfield, passed away at 2:07 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Aperion Care Capitol.
Allen was born on March 27, 1941 in Girard, IL, the son of Harley and Geneva Austin Daugherty.
Allen attended Feitshans High School. He was a paratrooper while serving his country in the United States Army. From November of 1971 until June 1, 2002, Allen was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He served as an officer and member of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #437 and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Allen was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed farming and his cows, working on cars, watching NASCAR racing, and his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gerald, Lawrence, and Earl "Doc" Daugherty.
He is survived by his two daughters, Kelly (husband, Scott) Burke of Waukee, IA and Tammy Kana of Ocala, FL; five grandchildren; companion, Delores Kruger of Springfield; one brother, Harley (wife, Lucille) Daugherty; and several step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Hector officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
