Allen Peterson Obituary

Allen L. Peterson

May 24, 1940 - September 9, 2024

On September 9, 2024 Allen L. Peterson, a beloved husband and father, passed away In Cottonwood Heights, Utah. He was 84. Allen was born May 24, 1940 in Murray, Utah, son of Leon and LaRue Peterson. He was an active member of the LDS church holding the office of High Priest. Allen was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and Sons of the Utah Pioneers (SUP). He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1963 as a Jet Mechanic. He never had a brother until he joined the service where he met his forever brothers, and they remained close for 60+ years.

Allen met his life-long partner and soul mate Hazel L. Bateman at Snelgrove's Ice Cream Shop in Salt Lake in 1963. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 2, 1963. Allen and Hazel raised and nurtured a wonderful family including three children, Leon Peterson (Susana Phing Yeo), Laine Peterson (Jamie Hunter) and Stephanie Peterson. They have 4 grandchildren: Myles Stein, Lauren Peterson, Kylee Decker, and Anthony Peterson and 3 great-grandchildren. He always proclaimed that his greatest achievement and joy was his family and the time they spent together.

He attended the University of Utah and the University of Phoenix graduating with a business degree. He was the facilities manager for Utah Transit Authority from Ogden to Provo. Allen was instrumental in ushering in TRAX rail service to the Salt Lake Valley.

Allen possessed a golden and continually generous heart. He was never too busy to respond; everything from emergencies, mechanical failures, broken pipes, et.al. His help was unconditional, extending to family, friends, and neighbors. The price for his service was a handshake and ""thank you"". A lot of cars in the Butler 17th ward exceeded expected service life due to his helping hands.

Allen was an active and avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed many of the outdoor pursuits offered by the Intermountain West always with his family. He was particularly fond of camping and fishing at Bridge Bay Yellowstone and Mustang Ridge Flaming Gorge. Allen was a consummate fisherman, devoutly believing that starting to fish anytime after 5 AM, was insulting and productive only to undisciplined naive fishers'.

The family is forever in debt to the George Whalen Veteran's Hospital, in Salt Lake City, for the wonderful care they provided Allen and support to his family. A special thanks to our friends and neighbors, especially the Merkleys and Stookeys.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

A viewing and service will be held at the Orchard Park Stake Center, 7035 S Nutree Drive, Cottonwood Heights, Utah, Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 12:00 noon with a viewing from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

In the end, we all become stories and he was a great one. (Margaret Atwood)
