Hermann Funeral Home - Stockton Obituary

Allen F. Wickler, age 89 of Stockton, IL, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Presence St. Joseph Center in Freeport, IL. He was born August 10, 1928; the son of the late Carl and Vivian (Fox) Wickler. He graduated from Warren High School in 1946. Allen married Joyce Luke on March 14, 1952. He had served in the United States Navy from 1946 – 1953.

Allen helped local farmers for nearly four decades while employed at the Stockton Co-op Association.  As a hobby, for years he made wooden craft pieces (in mass quantities), as gifts for family and friends.  He enjoyed traveling, especially locally, taking long drives exploring the backroads of Illinois and Wisconsin; for Allen the journey was as important as the destination.  A parade was never to be missed; an ice cream social could not be passed up; a sudden taste for a good cheddar would trigger a day trip to Wisconsin for a cheese factory visit.  And it seemed as if he knew someone wherever he went.  Later in life he added a moped to his travel lifestyle and townspeople would often catch a glimpse of Allen zipping through Stockton keeping abreast of whatever was happening in town.  Allen had a wide network of extended family and friends; in his 89 years he touched many lives in many ways.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Wickler of Stockton; sons, Bill (Carlene) Wickler of Hanover, IL, Michael (Mary Ann) Wickler of Pewaukee, WI, David Wickler of Stockton, and Andrew (Lori) Wickler of Stockton; daughter, Joy Wickler of Stockton, 8 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy.

Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm with a Funeral Mass immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation in Allen’s name to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 223 E Front St, Stockton, IL 61085 or the Galena Workshop, 706 W Front St, PO Box 6087, Galena, IL 61036-6087.
