Not sure what to say?

My Dear Dr Bingham, What A Joy To Read Some Of Your Life Story. You Were A Very Important Person In My Time At PSU & Beyond & I Still Think About You Often. I Remember When You Asked Me To Speak To All Of Your Undergraduate Classes About My Philosophy Of Life. I Was Too Young To Even Know I Had A Philosophy Of Life. Instead I Attended Youth Hostel Training In CA. When My Parents Received A Large, Official Envelope From PSU, Again I Didn´t Know What The Award Banquet Could Possibly Be...

Alma B.,
Over time I appreciate just how lucky I was to spend time with such an exception lady.

Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm, April 2013

I had the privilege of helping care for Alma for the last 3.5 years or so. She was the most gracious, welcoming dear lady when people would come to her home - even the repair guys! ("Do you need anything?")

We enjoyed our outings together - she loved nature, so our trips to the tulip fields, the Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Hood and the beach were filled with wonder and appreciation of our beautiful Pacific Northwest :-) She would even remark on our weekly trips to get groceries how...

Celina and Dexter with sons Steve and Kelly

Hello from Canada.

I am one of the long lost second (or third) cousins, and I have just read the wonderful write up in The Oregonain (May 9, 2017) about Alma.

From what I understand, Alma's mother (Teresa) and my dad's mother, Constance, were sisters. This means my dad (Brian Lawless, of Victoria BC) is first cousin to Alma and Zita. He was telling me today of when he was a young boy and how Alma and Zita would drive up from Portland and pick him up during the summer and drive...

Ladies & sirs ,
It was my good fortune to spend time with Alma Irene as her helper.
She was a bright spot in my day and my muse, always interested in life.
I relished being under her gracious and kind-hearted spell.
Fondly,
S. K. Tackmier
{Lady in waiting}

Dear Bingham cousins,

What a lovely and detailed obituary someone wrote.

I am "Lawrie", the last of the Lawrences to work with (maybe I should say, "for") Zita. Zita was part of our family. I loved her dearly, and since we knew Zita well, we also knew Alma. What an extraordinary pair of women those two were.

For as long as I can remember, I heard about the "Canadian cousins".

I'm 82, so just a sprout compared to the Bingham "girls", and am "confined" to a wheel...

I was privileged to visit Alma many times during my years at Portland State as Development Director in the Graduate School of Education from 2000-2012. We always had nice chats about her years at PSU, animals, and her active career. I enjoyed seeing the twinkle in her eyes. What a lovely long life she lived. Condolences to her family.
