Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home - Perryton Obituary

Jeannie Slaughter, 83, a longtime resident of Perryton, Texas passed away Tuesday morning, February 28, 2023 in Hugoton, Kansas. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10:00 a. m. at the First Baptist Church of Perryton, Tx, with Rev. Richard Laverty officiating. Burial will follow in Ochiltree Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be Thursday (3/2/23) and Friday (3/3/23) 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Family visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday (3/3/23) at the funeral home in Perryton. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. of Perryton, Texas.


Alma Jean “Jeannie” Miller was born on May 6, 1939 in Texhoma, Oklahoma to Lee and Edith Miller.  She married Kenneth Roger Slaughter on February 21, 1957 in Perryton, Tx and had two sons, Kelly and Howard (Howie). She was a retired Insurance Assistant in Perryton, Texas. 


In her retirement years, Jeannie was involved in the First Baptist Church’s nursery. She loved keeping up with her grandchildren’s activities and was such a proud Nena. She enjoyed watching tennis, her coffee, along with her Dr. Pepper, licorice, and popcorn. Jeannie had a smile that would light up any room!


She is survived by her two sons, Kelly Slaughter and wife Michelle of Hugoton, KS; Howard (Howie) Slaughter and wife Valerie of Topeka, Ks; five grandchildren, Justen Slaughter and wife Maddie of Georgetown, Tx; Richelle Miles and husband Rob of Choctaw, Ok; Jessie Slaughter of Del City, Ok, Chelsie Slaughter of Topeka, Ks and Colby Slaughter of Overland Park, Ks; great grandchild Hank Miles; one sister Niece Sorrell of Amarillo, Tx; and three brothers Danny Miller of Web City, Mo, Dave Miller of Austin, Tx and Rex Miller of Dumas, Tx.


Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Kenneth Slaughter; and her sister, Pat Cook.
