Alonzo Bowling age 80 of Aberdeen, Indiana near Rising Sun, was born in Dry Ridge, KY on February 16, 1932, the son of the late Eligh & Nancy Spurlock Bowling and left this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 3:05 P.M. at UC Hospital in Cincinnati, Oh He was the 8th of ten children. All but 1 brother have preceded him in death. He attended school at Cross Plains, Indiana and dropped out in his junior year of high school to help on the farm after his father became ill. He later joined the Army and was in the 82nd Airborne stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. he was discharged in April 1953. He was married to Mary Ann McCreary on June 6, 1953 in Vevay, Indiana by Rev. W. L. Peters and they enjoyed nearly 59 years together. He then took employment in Hamilton, Ohio working at Pease Woodwork and later for the City of Hamilton in the Utilities Department where he continued until they moved back to Indiana to be nearer both their families & where they purchased a farm in1967, where he remained until his untimely death. He worked for a short time at Hilltop Concrete in Patriot while getting started on the farm and building a milk parlor where they milked dairy cows for 12 years, along with raising tobacco & corn then later raised beef cattle until 2 years ago when he sold the beef cattle. He also was Building Inspector for Ohio County from 1989 until he retired the end of 2010. He was blessed with two children Marcia Bowling of Aberdeen & Scott (Jeanie) Bowling of Aberdeen and two granddaughters Kristina "Krissy" (Geoff ) Briceno of Aberdeen and Errin Beth (Jason) Hamblin of Warsaw, Ky. And two Great Granddaughters Alexia & Isabelle Weaver of Warsaw, Ky. 1 step great grandson Brennen Hamblin of Warsaw, Ky., 2 step grandsons Andrew Miller of Rising Sun, In., Kyle Miller of Fairfield, Oh 1 step granddaughter Emily Miller of Hamilton, Oh, and 7 step great granddaughters, 1 brother Donald (Winnie) of Aurora. In. 3 sisters in law Thelma Bowling Falmouth, Ky, Elaine Bowling Florence, Ky and Helen (Floyd) Hasler Fort Myers, Fl and 1 brother in law Pete (Brenda) McCreary of Florence, In and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, along with a host of friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Bear Branch, Indiana since 1944 and for several years served, as trustee of the church until he felt someone younger should take his place, but still helped out whenever he could. He was preceded in death by his Parents and 3 sisters Helen Updike, Lucinda Blackburn and Audrey (Rema) Griffin and 5 brothers Raleigh, Chester, Bill, and Kaywood & Steve. Funeral Service at Olive Branch Baptist Church at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 18th, with Pastor Pat Lanman officiating. Friends are invited to call Saturday 5-8 PM. at Markland Funeral Home. Interment at Olive Branch Cemetery, Bear Branch, IN. Family request donations to Olive Branch Baptist Church Building Fund or Olive Branch Cemetery.
