Alta Mae (Adams) Hessert, 96, of Ely Lake, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday November 20, 2021.
She was born in 1925 to the late Dr. Walter C. Adams and Emily (Ely) Adams.
Alta Mae grew up in Brooklyn, PA, and Chesaning, MI. She graduated from Albion College with a major in sociology and a teaching minor in music and Spanish. She did graduate work at Northwestern University and Garrett Theological Seminary. In the 1970’s she attended National College of Education Graduate School and became a reading specialist tutoring in area schools.
She married Paul Hessert in 1953, and they had 3 children. She enjoyed raising her family, music, travel, and her church. After retirement she studied watercolor painting and won 2 state awards for her artwork. She loved her life at Ely Lake, and her large extended family there.
For the last 7 years she received wonderful care at the United Methodist Home in Tunkhannock. Her family would like to thank their staff for the kind, caring, professional care she received.
In addition to her parents, Alta Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hessert, and her brother, Dr. Richard C. Adams. She is survived by her three children, Lynne (Dayton) Sanders, Judy Hessert and Chris Hessert, her grandchildren Michael Goodwin and James Broughton, Adam (Jenifer) Sanders, Brandon (Andrea) Sanders, Erika (Mike) Braxton, Alyssa Spotts (John Clark), Emily (Benjamin) Petrus and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday November 27th at 2:00 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Montrose. There will be visitation from 1:00 - 2:00. The family requests that everyone wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Trehab Food Bank, Trehab.org
