Alta at a Queen of Peace fund raiser

Alta was a smart, active and fun woman. Her husband, George was best man at my parents (Fred & Muriel Schelb) wedding. The North Portland Catholic families were a tight group and had many good times together. There were picnics at Columbia Park, Sing- A-Long fund raisers at Queen of Peace and lots of conversations at The Barn & Twilight Room.
I babysat for George and Alta. Alta and my mom were our track coaches at Queen of Peace. Alta contributed much to the Kenton neighborhood. I am...

I was sad to read the notice of Alta's passing. I knew Alta from my work as a long-time member of the Kenton Neighborhood Association Board in the late 90s through 2009. Her work with the KNA and the Rose Garden are legendary. I proudly own a signed copy of the first history book. Alta will be missed!

Millie was my cousin I never met - her Dad was my Dad Arthur McPHersons brother. Sorry to hear of her passing.

I am so sad to read of Alta's passing. The blessing of owning both of the books she wrote, will always be there. During our time serving on Kenton PTA, was always a good thing. She had great ideas, and her quiet way of getting things done. Her corner lot, was always filled with flowers, then she decided Kenton needed to do something with that triangle on Interstate, and now we have a Beautiful Rose Garden, tended by local residents. Thank you, for your service , and friendship Alta.

I will miss Alta very much. She became one of my favorite residents after she moved in. I used to call her my sister from another mister lol. I love Bruno too and I will miss him. She was loved and I'm thankful she won't be in anymore pain.
