Althea Gibson

Althea Gibson will be truly missed. She was definately a role model for young black women. May God wrap her in His bosom and be at peace.

Deepest sympathy. Althea Gibson was truly a pioneer and a trail blazer and will long be remembered as such. She is gone but she will not soon be forgotten by those of us who admired and revered her talent and untiring spirit. She was truly an inspiration.

Your family will be in my prayers. I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Gibson a few years ago and I will never forget the calmness of her presence and the gentleness of her greeting. I was proud to know of her success as an athlete and to experience her patience when meeting plain folks like me. What a thrill it was for me to see her picture on the Wheaties box so many years after her retirement. Thoughts of her will remain with me always.

Keep your head up Sarena and Venus.

You are such an inspiration to me, born the name of Althea and by my mother's maiden name is Gibson, I feel a strong connection to you.
May God wrap you tightly into his arms and guide you through eternity. My deepest sympathy to your family.
