Not sure what to say?

Alvin was a good friend since law school and practiced law in San Francisco with George Williams at Heller Ehrman. Alvin and George both changed occupations , but one thing was certain : We had dinner together to celebrate Chinese New Years for 55 years.

I did not know Alvin at all but have his copy of "The Psychoanalytic Theory of Neurosis" by Otto Fenichel in my library. As a straight man, I am so impressed by his accomplishments as a human being and Jew. He had the versitality that could extend to 300 years! Tragically, he died in the midst of this awful pandemic and I mourn his passing. I am sure that the angels are enlisting his services as a planner and psychotherapist.

Al was an incredibly generous man, committed to things that mattered in Jewish, Queer, Social Justice, and Arts spaces--contributing precious resources of his time as well as his philanthropic investments. I worked with him through the SF Jewish Community Federation. Al was warm-hearted, kind, could also be fierce, and was fun to spend time w/. I enjoyed numerous Yank Sing lunches w/ Al, discussing a wide range of topics he held forth on, and I always came away feeling better informed &...

I knew Al since childhood, about 11yo, when my mom had dated Al for a few years and stayed in touch throughout his life. Al contributed so much to the world around him as shown in this memorial, but also to people like me. He helped me with my photography business in Sausalito in the food and wine industry, and when a car/bike accident, I was lucky to survive, caused loss of sight and hearing one one side, he forgave the loan for my business and helped support me financially and emotionally...

I did not know Mr. Baum but was drawn to read his obituary. There have never been many human beings such as this man. His accomplishments were those of five people. And on top of his seemingly tireless quest of knowledge and education and work and service, it is obvious by his photograph that he was a happy man . loved life. The City and the world lost a lot on March 28. My heartfelt condolences to his husband, Robert. How blessed you are to have been loved by Al. I hope you find...

What a beautiful obituary. Very powerful to read. May Al's memory be for a blessing. He was such a wonderful man and will be so missed.

Al was a good man with a kind soul. I knew him as a neighbor. He was always compassionate, friendly, and greeted everyone with a smile. I will miss him.
