Not sure what to say?

We loved Al. We often visited at River Terrace when our sons Joel and Andy attended there. Our sympathy to Shirley and children, especially Stan who we know at the Cadillac CRC. The obituary captures Al's character and personality perfectly. It is so hard to believe a man of such stature is gone. But God is glorified. from Rich and Evie Westmaas

So sorry to hear of Rev Hoksbergen's passing. He was truly a blessing to River Terrace Church. He welcomed me my first day there and kept making me feel welcome until the day he left us. Many people were blessed by his wonderful sermons and friendly manner. He will be sorely missed in this world, but Heaven just got a wonderful angel. Deepest sympathy to the entire Hoksbergen family. God bless you all at this difficult time.

Prayers, love and hugs from afar for Shirley, Miriam and all the family of Al. We were privileged to share four delightful grandchildren with Al & Shirley. We shared them in Michigan and in Florida and first in California with Kayle III as Al shared in Kayle's baptism. So many fun and fond memories to hold and to share. May God's peace be with all of you as you share with one another.

Shirley and family, We express your prayers and love at this time of loss of a great man, husband, father and grandfather. May you always feel the love of our Heavenly Father. Jack and Marlene Huls

We are so sorry to hear of Pastor Al's passing. He was an incredible man and embodied all that a pastor should be. Our family was mentored, guided and loved by Pastor Al over the course of many years. He is part of the very fabric of our family life, and he was a blessing to us on so many occasions and in so many ways. We praise and thank God for Pastor Al and offer our condolences to Shirley and family.

It's a sign of a good preacher when you remember one of their sermons for more than a few hours. I still remember one of Al's sermons from over 40 years ago. I was a teenager at the River Terrace Christian Reformed church when Al preached on Isaiah 54:2-- "Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes." Al was always prodding and pushing us to open our church and make welcome people from outside our Christian...

Shirley, I was so saddened to read of Pastor Al's passing. I cherish the few times that we walked together with Joan and Arnie and the laughs that were shared. What a treasure Pastor Al was to so many at Ferrysburg Church. You and your family will be in my prayers in the days to come. Hold firm to John 3:16. Sending you my love.

My sincere sympathy goes out to you and your family, Roland and Lisseth, as you grieve the loss of a wonderful father, grandfather, husband, and Servant of God. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Shirley and family members,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours in your loss. Al was very special and it was a privilege to work for him for so many years at River Terrace.
