I first talked to Al in 2003. I was getting information for the USS REDFIN web site. He was very interested and we talked several times after that. Later he sent me a copy of his book, "Survivors Story, Submarine USS FLIER".
In November 2007 I went to Muskegon and had the pleasure of meeting him. As we were planning the 2008 REDFIN Reunion in Muskegon, I asked if he would be our guest speaker. With a twinkle and a tear in his eye, he replied that he would love to be the speaker...
