Alvin, I will miss you greatly but I am so glad to have known you. I only found out of your passing today. If only I had known. I am so sorry I missed your funeral. I will always have fond memories of us playing golf. I'm glad we got to play one last time a few weeks ago. I'll always remember you Alvin. You were Great man.

August 23, 2012

Alvin, I am so glad you put your trust in me to help you through the final months of your life, to be there answering your questions when you were making your decision to end your pain and suffering, and to help you understand the doctors conversations with you during office visits and in the hospital, especially that LAST afternoon. I was proud to take your final instructions for your own obituary and put it together on my computer, reading it back to you, while you lay in your hospital bed. Those were your words entirely, I just arranged them for you. Thank you for your trust in me to help your family during and after your passing. I will coninue to do as you requested to the best of my ability. Your loving cousin, Pamela Maxey

Sylvia, Robert, and Anthony,

A Wake Forest friend notified me of Alvin's passing; I am so sorry that I did not know in time to attend the visitation. Please know that I pray God's comfort for you. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you and do call. I have tried to call, but get no voice mail. We need to renew our friendship. Always know I will be available. My phone # is in the Fuquay-Varina pages, under Rosa Havens, or maybe Lake.

I CAN REMEMBER OUR VISITS BACK TO NORTH CAROLINA AS A KID AND ALWAYS HAVING A COOK OUT AT EITHER UNCLE ALVINS OR AUNT VIVIANS.
ALL MY UNCLES AND AUNTS TRIED TO MAKE AN ATTEMPT TO GATHER AS A FAMILY TO REFLECT ON OLD TIMES BOTH WITH LAUGHTER AND SOMETIMES SORROW OF LOSS ONES.
EVEN AS I HAVE GROWN OLDER AND HAVE NOT HAD MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO GET BACK TO NORTH CAROLINA, UNCLE ALVIN ALWAYS MADE IT A POINT TO SEE MYSELF AND MY SON ON HIS VISITS TO SEE HIS BROTHER MAYNARD HERE IN MISSOURI.
HE WAS A VERY SELF EDUCATED MAN WHO COULD DISCUSS ALL ASPECTS OF WORLD MATTERS AS WELL AS HAVING A HUMAN INTEREST STORY IN HIS BACK POCKET.
ALWAYS A SMILE AND MANNERS FOLLOWED HIM WHERE EVER HE WENT.
MY FAMILY SENDS THEIR PRAYERS AND SORROW IN THE LOSS OF UNCLE ALVIN.

Sylvia and Robert.... I am so deeply sadden with the passing of Alvin, your husband, your father. I know your hearts are filled with sorrow and joy at the same time; as you know he is now with our LORD JESUS!
“Love knows not of its own depth until the hour of separation”

My memories of Mr. Moore go back to the year 2000. We befriended one another through notarizing a document for him while working at Crown General Contractors. Who would ever guessed I would become rather close to him & his wife Sylvia.

They both welcomed me into there home, having lunch with them and a few nice dinners just the three of us. They helped me find work when I was unemployed; he shared his Korean War stories with me in his priviate office at home that left you breathless in his bravery & courage. Mr. Moore and Sylvia were both so very generous and I will never forget their caring and kindness towards me. They made you feel like family.

I have such fond memories of Mr. Moore's words of wisdom, how to approach and deal with things life. He believed in working hard and that a promise was a promise, and you had better follow through with it. That your word was your word. If you worked hard, you were rewarded well.

Mr. Moore, I will miss your genuine love, affection, kindness, generosity & determination to get things done and your contribution to the City of Raleigh. I am sorry that I didn't stop by a few weeks ago while in the area… I wish I would have.

Hugs from Earth!

So my very close friend Alvin passed away at 5:20 this morning. He said he was ready to, so they slowly cut the oxygen and increased the morphine, and then he slept very peacefully. I am so happy that wonderful man was in my life. He was one of the sweetest people I know, He could never get my name right so he always called me Clara. I went to church with him, I played golf with him. God bless him, when he was talking right before he passed away he said that he would be watching over us in Heaven and he would see us all when we got there. I called him Uncle Alvin, he will always be my uncle alvin and he will always have a special place in my heart.

Alvin (I called him Mr. Moore) was a remarkable man, he loved his family and friends, and treated everybody he met fairly. His passing is so sudden,it shocked me, I remembered when he came to my shop last month (he came once a month ) we had a good conversation about everyday life, about family, faith, business,...how proud he was of everything that he accomplished in life. I'll miss seeing him and his interesting life stories, and something he had said always: "if you don't use it, you'll lose it". He is in Heaven now.
My condolences to his family and love ones

I was very sorry to hear of Alvin's passing. I met Alvin on a trip to Chapel Hill. My meeting with Alvin was arranged by his brother Maynard. We met on a crowded street in Raliegh and Alvin came over and introduced himself. It was a stimulating day because of Alvin's sharing his wisdom and good conversation. Alvin is one of the most interesting gentlemen I have met in my live.

When I came to Raleigh in 1969, with the North Carolina Restaurant Association, Alvin was one of the first restaurant suppliers I met. We've been friends since and I did recently see him again at lunch. I share a sense of loss with all of his family and friends. With deepest sympathy!
