Not sure what to say?

A good and kind man and wonderful husband to my friend and co-worker,Shirley.

I've had no contact with Alvin and Shirley for a number of years but have always had so much respect and admiration for them both. My condolences to you, his extraordinary family, for this profound loss. Alvin's memorial service was such an incredibly touching experience--the most meaningful service I've attended, ever. Please accept my deep gratitude to all of you who spoke for the gift of the service to the many of us present. To listen to Alvin's influence on the lives of family and...

I have been deeply fond of Alvin Rackner for the good he did as manager of Portland Jewish Family and Child Services. Though afflicted by a war-time back injury, he never failed to engage one with equanimity, an incisive viewpoint, and a great sense of humor. Kol Hakavod, Alvin. Your memory is a blessing.

Alvin Rackner was a man few could forget; a
a pleasure to know and talk with, an honor and a privilege to be with. Shirley, It is very hard to lose a good man, and you are truly in my thoughts. Take good care of yourself.

My family and I spent many holidays and vacation trips with Alvin and family over 50 years. Alvin taught me to fish off his boat on the Willamette River. He was a warm and intelligent man and we will miss him.

What a huge loss for all of Portland's communities. I worked with Alvin years ago supporting Jewish Family and Child Services and with Shirley through other local community based organizations. Many families would not have received the high level of care and support without Alvin and Shirley. He will be sorely missed. Tyece (Rosenberg) Okamura

My family and I were honored to meet Shirley and Alvin a few years ago. A little incident at the John Wayne airport caused our families to meet, and a friendship grew!

We feel truly blessed to know them.

Please accept our sincere sympathies on the loss of such a nice man.

To Alvin's lovely family:
My heart is heavy for the loss you are experiencing. Alvin was one of those people I always enjoyed seeing walking my way. His presence will be missed in our community. Much love to you all.

In appreciation for the support he gave me in marriage counseling 40 years ago. Al made a difference. He will be missed.
