Memorial services celebrating the life of Alvin Senske, age 88, of Glencoe were held Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn. Officiating was Rev. William Nelsen. The organist was Marie Eischens and the congregational hymns included “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagle’s Wings”. Serving as honorary bearers were Richie Hasti, Tina Senske, Tamara Gehlen, Gary Schermann, Damian Amberg, Heather Gehlen and Valerie Senske. Interment was in the High Island Cemetery in New Auburn. Visitation was held Monday evening at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
Alvin Henry Senske was born November 28, 1918 in Penn Township, Minnesota the son of William and Augusta (Tessmer) Senske. He was baptized on January 14, 1919 at Immanuel Lutheran in New Auburn by Rev. Diemer and was later confirmed into the faith on April 19, 1933 also at Immanuel Lutheran by Rev. Hans Werner. Alvin attended German and Country School. On May 6, 1943, Alvin was united in marriage with Bernetta Albrecht at Immanuel Lutheran by Rev. Mueller. The couple made their home farming in Stewart, Arlington and Blakeley and then moved to New Auburn in 1952. In 1999, the couple moved to Glencoe where Alvin remained a resident until entering St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted in April of 2007.
Alvin was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran in New Auburn. He worked for New Auburn Creamery, Green Giant and farmed in his early years. Alvin enjoyed watching baseball, either live or on television. He also enjoyed playing cards, working in the garden and talking to everyone, friend or stranger. Alvin especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who all thought their grandpa was the greatest, most fun person they knew. On Wednesday, April 18, 2007, Alvin entered his eternal rest at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 20 days. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; son Terry; grandson Brent; father-in-law and mother-in-law Emil & Elsie Albrecht; brothers Erwin Senske, William Senske Jr. and Marvin Senske; brothers-in-law Clarence Alsleben, Herb Alsleben, Reuben Uecker, Melvin Weishert and Lawrence Peterson; and sister-in-law Phyllis Senske.
Alvin is survived by his children Errolan Senske (wife: Donna) of Glencoe, Jeannine Gehlen of Hutchinson; daughter-in-law Diane Senske of Cokato; grandchildren Heather Hasti (husband: Richie), Quinn Senske (wife: Tina), Robyn Schermann (husband: Gary), Travis Senske (wife: Valerie), Kristal Amberg (husband: Damian), Josh Gehlen (wife: Tamarah), Nick Gehlen (wife: Heather); great-grandchildren Courtney, Paige and Maddison Hasti, Chris, Lee and Trent Senske, Taelor and Grace Schermann, Mikayla, McKenna and Kaeden Amberg, Elizabeth and Isaiah Gehlen, Alyssa, Kasey and Kaylee Gehlen; brothers and sisters Hertha Peterson, Willmar Senske (wife: Myrtice), Victor Senske (wife: Dorothy), Delores Remus (husband: Melvin Remus), Lydia Uecker, Bernice Weishert; sisters-in-law Evelyn Alsleben, Dolores Alsleben, Irene Senske and Phyllis Senske; as well as many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
