Ambalal M. Patel, 92, of Commonwealth Avenue, Attleboro, died on Friday, April 4, 2003 at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. He was the husband of Joytiben Patel to whom he was married on November 19, 1943.

Born in India on January 10, 1911, he was a son of the late Mohanlal and Amthiben Patel. He was raised and educated in India where he remained a resident until immigrating to the United States and settling in Attleboro in 1984.

In India, Mr. Patel was the owner and operator of a restaurant for many years prior to his retirement. He then served for more than 30 years as an elected public official in municipal government in his community.

In past years, he was an avid walker and enjoyed reading especially the daily newspaper.

In addition to his wife, he leaves four daughters: Lalita Patel of Plainville; Sharda Patel of Mansfield; Kashiben Patel in India and Kantaben Patel in India; two sons: Hasmukh Patel, with whom he resided, of Attleboro and Jashvant Patel of Woburn; 23 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Babubhai Patel.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Hindu service on Sunday, April 6, 2003 at 9:30 AM in the “Commonwealth Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Following ritual services, cremation will follow at North Purchase Crematory, Attleboro. Burial will be in India.
