Not sure what to say?

We were in Panama when Mr. Moss was Ambassador. My wife Nelda worked for the Military Attaché. Ambler was admired by everyone. We were invited to his home several times to celebrate arrival of new employees and other functions. I was in Miami at a meeting and I was at the bottom of the stairs when he was coming down and he said. Uly, I didn't know you were here. Just one little example of how wonderful a person Ambler was. He went back to D.C. in 1984. We returned to New Orleans in 1987. ...

In 1978, when Mr. Moss was ambassador to Panama, my husband, Skip, was assigned by the navy to embassy duty. Shortly after he arrived he happened to ride in an elevator with the ambassador, who asked him how he was settling in to his new assignment. Skip replied that the job was going well but that he had just learned there were no duty assignments available for me in Panama. We were both upset because we were newlyweds and, after being apart 2 years already before we married, we really...

I had not idea about this. Let me take a few moments to think. I am stunned.

Dear Moss family, please accept my sincerest condolences on your loss. We would be honored to share the ambassador's story in the "In Memory" section of The Foreign Service Journal (published by AFSA). If you would like us to run his obituary text, please reach out to me at [email protected]. Thank you so much.

Ha estat un enorme plaer i un privilegi treballar i ser amiga d'Ambler Moss, una persona exquisida en maneres i en coneixements. Sempre amable, generós, estimava Catalunya i des d'aquí li ho agraïm molt. El trobarem a faltar.

It was an honor and a privilege to have worked with Ambler for a decade at the North-South Center. As a leader, colleague, and dear friend, his intellect, compassion, humanity, and unbridled optimism were inspiring. His contributions to UM, to the law, and to public service-he shined in each domain-were outstanding. May he rest in peace and may his memory be for a blessing.

Professor Moss was a gentle and steady presence at UM INS, where his intellect, guidance and kindness have left a long lasting, positive impact on me. I pray for his legacy to live on and for the peace of his family and loved ones as he goes to be with the LORD.

My favorite memory of Ambler is him leading a conga line in I think 1989 at 2 am for a GSIS Halloween party with a steel drum band. Rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of being a private sector banker and working closely with Ambassador Moss, not only in Panama, but in several Western Hemisphere counties during the "debt crisis" years. Ambler was always a professional diplomat in every way and also possessed a barely suppressed sense of humor which he used to great effect when negotiations bogged down- which was often - and tended to lighten up the atmosphere to allow for an oftentimes different approach to reach a desired result.
