Falgout Funeral Homes - Raceland Obituary

Amelia Gloria Santos Gassen, 88, a native of New Orleans and resident of Luling for 66 years, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. An avid runner, cyclist, and swimmer, Amelia lived a very active lifestyle alongside her husband Arthur. The two of them were rarely apart and enjoyed an incredibly unique bond. Amelia also had a special connection with children, having never really grown up herself. She was a professional clown (Lolly Pop the Clown) for seventeen years and often did face-painting at children's events. Amelia loved to play guitar, to sew, to cook, and to travel. Last year, she spent a memorable week at a dude ranch in Texas. She was known for her love of Mardi Gras and she looked forward to the carnival season every year. Her youthful spirit was infectious and her vibrant soul will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Amelia was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling, and visitation will be held there on Monday, March 14 from 9 until 11 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church starting at 11 am with burial to follow in St. Charles Cemetery. Amelia is survived by her loving husband, Arthur E. Gassen, Jr.; children, Laura Gassen Templet (Deborah), Wanita Gassen Montreuil (Harold), Arthur E. Gassen III, Wayne Gassen (Lyddi), Jeffery Gassen (Tina); 11 grandchildren, Philip, Marcel, Cynthia, Emma Rose, Jean-Paul, Stephanie, Reneé, Malia, Kelsie, Angel, Luke and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Joaquin Santos; mother, Eva Louisa LaMarque; brother, Joachim "Joe" Santos; sister, Theolia Lotuso. In lieu of flowers, donations to OMS Life Foundation (www.omslifefoundation.org or P.O. box 2899, Cypress, TX 77410) or Children's Hospital of New Orleans (200 Henry Clay Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70118). Falgout Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Jeff, Arthur, Jr., Arthur III, and Wayne,
I always enjoyed seeing your Mom at the races. And I know she will miss being with you all at upcoming races. Now she can fly with the angles.

Rest in peace Aunt Amelia. I will always remember the fun times we had (especially during Mardi Gras and at Blue Bayou Waterpark). Praying for you and your family.
