Obituary

Andrea Evans, an actress who starred as Tina Lord on “On Life to Live” and had other notable soap opera roles, died July 9, 2023, at her home in Pasadena, California. She died after fighting breast cancer at the age of 66.

Evans was best known as fan favorite Tina Lord on “One Life to Live,” returning to the role multiple times over the years. She first joined the show in 1978, leaving in 1981 only to return four years later. In the interim, she played Patty Williams on “The Young and the Restless.” But Evans’ second stint as Tina made her a wildly popular star of “One Life to Life” – she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award, nicknamed “Daytime’s Diva of Dirt” by People magazine, and appeared on several covers of Soap Opera Digest.

Despite her success on “One Life to Live,” Evans left in 1990, later revealing that she had stepped away from the show because of a stalker who had sent her death threats and broken into the show’s studios to attack her. Her co-star, Rebecca Schaeffer (1967–1989), had been killed by an obsessed fan, a tragedy that convinced Evans to leave the show for her own safety.

Evans would return to “One Life to Live” as Tina in 2008 and 2001, but she kept busy in the interim, taking on other soap opera roles as well as appearing in movies. She returned to soap operas in 1999, playing Tawny on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” then stepped into a starring role on “Passions” in 2000. There, she played Rebecca Hotchkiss Crane, replacing Maureen McCormick in the role and remaining with the series until it ended in 2008. Evans also had roles in the movies “A Low Down Dirty Shame,” “Ice Cream Man,” and “Hit List.”
