NORTHAMPTON - It's hard to forget the first time you met Andrea Raphael. For so many, it was at her and John Reily's house in Florence at "family parties" that included dozens of cousins, neighbors, exchange students, teachers and a few people Andrea had just met. This was Andrea's family: the...

Not sure what to say?

Andrea was an ally and friend at boarding school on days I felt alone and unsure of myself - always with an infectious smile and heart of gold. She hated to see anyone hurting or sad and reminded me of how bright the future was. We both needed up working with children with developmental disabilities and she reinforced my love of James Taylor. I adored her and thought of her like a big sister I never had. She has and will continue to always inspire me to be better and do better for those less...

I had the privilege of attending one of Andrea and John's "family parties" with my son, Doug and his wife Amy. It was a fun and delightful evening. Andrea was especially nice to make me (the older generation) feel very welcome. I send my sympathy, and wish the family warm memories forever. Jacque Wheat (NJ).

Andrea was a very close friend while at Madeira. I spent so much time at her home (I was a border, and we often made chocolate chip cookies. We would eat all the raw dough with her mother before the cookies had a chance to make it to the oven. She drove to meet me upon my arrival to as a Freshman at University of Vermont and was waiting on the doorstep of my dorm. I always thought I would see her again. May she rest in peace and may all her brilliant work continue. God's grace to you...

I send my condolences to Andrea's family. We went to high school together, and, though I have not seen Andrea in many years, her warmth, kindness, humor, and determination immediately came back to me as I read her obituary.May each of Andrea's family know how much all of us from her days at Madeira are saddened to hear of her passing. Peace to all at this difficult time.

Oh Andrea, A gift to the world. A classmate at Madeira. Such a beautiful epilogue to her beautiful soul. The banquet of life was hers. Rest in peace Andrea for you did help make the world a better place. I hope your children and family will find peace and celebrate your grand, truly kind, self.

What a lovely recounting of Andrea's life. I was a high school classmate and also remember her big smile and love of music. My prayers are with her family.

Andrea and I went to high school together and most of my fondest memories of that time include her. She was kind to everyone and always had a smile on her face. She was one of the best athletes and scholars, but I remember most begging her for that chocolate chip cookie recipe! I had not seen her in many years, but she was certainly in my thoughts as we approached our 30th Reunion. I've asked to have her remembered at our Memorial Service next weekend at Madeira. Love and Peace to her...

Andrea was my classmate at the Madeira School. We were an interesting mix of girls from all walks of life, and Andrea was able to befriend and touch all of us. She was a very special person. I am shocked to learn of her passing. But I am proud reading of all her life's activities and what she has done since her Madeira days. It must be difficult to lose such a special person in your life. Our prayers and thoughts are with her family and loved ones.

Andrea's devotion to teaching my daughter new skills for her challenges with language and math, changed her perspective from someone with a learning disability to "someone who just sees the world differently." Now a sophomore honors student in high school, she told me she uses those skills from 4th grade everyday. Andrea's love of children and devotion to education will be sorely missed.
