Not sure what to say?

One of Andrew’s sayings was “The avenues are there for you to do better, but you have to keep fighting.”

Andrew was an extraordinary husband, father and grandfather and passed his beliefs and strengths to his children. He enjoyed talking about all sorts of topics and never met a stranger. He continued to enjoy sports of all kinds and could speak endlessly on his history and always had words of kindness and wisdom wherever he traveled. He continued to be very active in his...

In one brave, strategic move, Andrew housed Supreme Court Judge Thurgood Marshall in his home on Coit Street when he was coming to speak at an NAACP meeting. The people were afraid to house Judge Marshall as threats of violence and death paraded the streets, but Andrew stood up for him and took him around town to show him the city of Florence.

It was during this time, the people began to recognize him as a true leader and asked him to become Head of the Citizen’s Committee to...

Andrew later returned to Wilson High School as a teacher and became the 3rd football coach in the school’s history and was later promoted to Head Coach. Andrew’s love for all arenas of sports grew and it was shown as he began coaching basketball for both the boys and girls’ teams. He led the boys’ basketball team to the Conference Championship in 1937. Andrew was also the 1st African American to go to the Red Cross Aquatic School and also became the 1st Certified African American First Aid...

To the Huggins Family,

My heart goes out to you during this time of bereavement. I have and will always cherish my memories of Mr. Huggins. I thank God for him and what he taught me as a child and young adult.

My aunt, Pauline O. Jenkins, sends her deepest sympathies as well. She is 90 yrs. old and your Father taught her how to play basketball in Cartersville, SC.

May the gift of peace of mind and heart be with you, as promised by our Savior, in John 14:27.

Huggins - you were a good father and grandfather and always stood strong in your beliefs not only for your family, but for anyone you came in contact with. You never met a stranger and always taught others to be kind to another and help when you can. You are celebrating and being rewarded now in heaven by our Father and I know He is telling you, Well Done, Son! and welcome Home!

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing

II Timothy 4: 6-8

We love you, Daddy! Rose and Yolanda

Andrew Huggins was the 3rd oldest of 10 brothers and sisters whom he loved dearly. His spiritual life began at an early age through his parent’s guidance, instilling in him to remain humble in his endeavors as his life and his accomplishments began to reach many people in South Carolina. His parents also taught him that Christianity is for everyone and that God is no respect of persons and that all people were equal.
