Andrew Lisko

Mr. Lisko was my violin teacher from 3rd grade until college!!! He was the absolute best teacher I ever had! Not only did he expect your best, he also wanted the best for you! There were several times when I would go in for a lesson and he would know something was wrong. He would stop the lesson and make sure I was ok and in a good place. I loved him like a loving grandfather!!! He will truly be missed!!!

Dan, I was sorry to see that your dad had died. It's excellent that he lived so long and had an effect on many people's lives.

I was very fortunate to study with Mr. Lisko for two years during my junior and senior years at Capital University. Our time together guided my 21 years of teaching elementary and middle school strings. He even consented to be the guest conductor for a spring concert in 2002. I was thrilled to introduce him to my students. He was in attendance in 2011 when the Springfield Symphony Orchestra named me Music Educator of the Year. He has been on my mind the last three weeks. I was a student of Andrew Lisko in the early 60's. At the time I was not of aware of the magnitude of his abilities and skill. Just wish I would have prepared more for each lesson. Thank you for pushing me to be better every day.

Andrew Lisko was an outstanding violinist, a kind human being, and a fine teacher and mentor. During my time at Capital University (1966-1970), I was fortunate to serve as piano accompanist for many of his finest students. Andy was always complimentary of my ability to accompany and provide support for these talented individuals, and he instilled in me an even greater love of music. He will be greatly missed!

Professor Lisko leaves a great legacy at Capital University since his 1954 appointment to the Conservatory of Music through his impressive teaching, advising and community service as a dedicated and impressive violinist in many ensembles.

Members of Cap Connections Continued, Capital's emeriti/emeritae and retiree network, knew Professor Lisko well over his long tenure and professionally active retirement. We extend our sympathy to his family and to all who mourn his passing.

I met Andy Lisko at Cardinal Health Orchestra. Always a gentleman, a fine leader and violinist!

I will always remember Andy's playing skills with the Cardinal Health Chamber Orchestra-he always had an upbeat attitude with everyone around him. He told me stories of playing in a Navy band on the Missouri at the Japanese surrender-not sure if that was accurate-but it was a fascinating story for sure.

Andy was truly a legend!! I first met him when I joined the Capital Conservatory of Music faculty in 1979. He could be funny, direct, and thoughtful. In reading his obituary, I have discovered he truly was a Renaissance man!!! May he rest in peace.
