Andrew Malinowski of Rocky Hill, CT, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Hartford Hospital. Andrew was born in Hartford, CT, to the late Andrew Malinowski and Sophie (Gauchas) Malinowski. He graduated from an all-boys school in Hartford. Andrew was a truck driver for Sunshine Cookies until the age of 28, when Andrew chose to join the Rocky Hill Police Department. During his 31 years of service, Andrew received many awards, recognitions, and certificates. He was honored by the Stork Club in Rocky Hill for delivering a baby girl, a meritorious officer commendation for the rescue of an 8-year-old Berlin boy, saved a woman's life by stopping traffic on I-91 for Life Star to land, and was awarded a day off with pay for apprehension of persons in a hold-up at the bank in 1977. He was the first to experiment with the first propane cruiser. Andrew was also chosen as Rocky Hill Officer of the year in 1986 and was then honored by the Town of Rocky Hill, CT, for 30 years of service in 1994. He signed off as Officer Andrew Malinowski at 11:50 PM on Saturday, October 18, 1997, from the Rocky Hill Police Department with his statement, “I do not consider myself a hero. I just like to help people.”
He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (Smith) Malinowski, his father Andrew Malinowski, his mother Sophie, his Stepfather Bruno Gutauskas, and his son John Gramegna. Andrew is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janine and Christopher Pavelec, his loving grandchildren, Austin, Aaron, and Haley Pavelec, who was his pride and joy. His sister and brother-in-law, Ann (Gutauskas) and her husband, Stephen Kulesa of Terryville, CT. His sister-in-law, Carol (Smith), and her husband, John Zarbock of Texas; Janice (Smith) Ray of Manchester; his brother-in-law, Bruce Smith, and his wife, Kelly of Maryland; John Smith of Manchester; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to the Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook St. Rocky Hill on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 5-7p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 11a.m. interment will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
