I worked with Andy at REI.
He was always outdoors doing what you didn't in a style that was uniquely his own while providing an avenue for you to join in.
He helped you discover and excel at activities you hadn't the courage to engage in on your own.
His sense of humor and his smile always made my day.

He will be missed by so many of us.

I knew Andy when he worked for REI. I was the Store Manager in Bellevue/Redmond. He was a true outdoorsman and loved and respected the natural world. Many are sharing their stories this week about almost giving up on a glacier climb or a rock pitch and Andy's encouragement and empathy which kept them going to accomplish their summits.
