Pitas of Falls Church, VA and Francis R. Pitas of Leesburg, VA. Also survived by his siblings, Margaret and Joseph, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sophie, Nellie and Helen and his brothers, Theodore, William and Stephen. It was my great honor to have worked with Andy and to have known him since 1981. He was a true gentleman who was always ready and willing to help with anything that was in his power. The aviation world and especially the air traffic control world has lost a real pioneer. My condolences to the Pitas family.

Condolences to the family of a truly great man. Andy was a pioneer who didn't seek to be a pioneer, but who saw wrong that needed to be righted ... and did so. He was patient and "nurturing" to we young controllers and specialists who had the good fortune to have him as a mentor. He will be missed by all who knew him.
