Andrew "Andy" C. RIES

A resident of St. Louis, Mo. until 2008, died in Seattle, Washington, on August 3, 2013. He was 86 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Frances Thomson Ries, five daughters (Mary Victoria, Mary Melissa, Mary Frances, Mary Martha, Mary Margaret), and one son (Andrew Jasper), ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Andy graduated from Saint Louis University with a B.A. in 1950, and from the Saint Louis University School of Law in 1952. As an undergraduate, he was involved in many activities, and was selected captain of the tennis team and one of the five "Outstanding Seniors." In law school, he was Dean of the Law Fraternity Delta Theta Phi.
After law school, Andy worked for a few years with a local accounting firm where he obtained his CPA certification. He then went on to work for the international CPA firm of Touche Ross (now Deloitte). He served as a Regional Tax Partner, the Managing Partner of the St. Louis office, the Midwest Regional Partner, a member of the Firm's Executive Committee and Board of Directors, as well as internationally as its Mideast Regional Partner out of its London office.

Andy wanted to give back to the community and served on the Board of Directors of the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Dance St. Louis, the Missouri Athletic Club, and St. Louis University, where he was a trustee for sixteen years.

He was a wonderful and kind husband and father and was deeply loved and respected by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held on August 9, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Seattle, Washington (at 18th and Aloha).

Donations can be made to Swim Across America (benefitting Seattle Cancer Care Alliance where Andy was being treated). Go to http://www.swimacrossamerica.org/goto/familyandfriends. Martha Ries and David Day are swimming in his honor.

Mary and Family ~
I was saddened to hear of Andy's passing. So many good memories of Touche in the old days, Andy and Steve, and "enjoying the grape" in St.Louis, our European assignments, the Orient Express trip... Andy meant so much to Steve, as he did to all who knew him. He was a gentleman who blessed everyone with his kindness, grin and laughter.

Dear Mary and family,
We are very sorry to hear of Andy's death.
He was a joy.

Bless you, Rita Kuna and family

Mary and family it is never easy to lose someone but the celebration of his life is what we have.
As his outlaw (EB married Bill)I saw more of him than my cousin EB.
Andy was always smiling and laughing and enjoying life.
I will never forget him.

Mary and Family,
We give thanks to God for the kind and gracious life of Andy, a Christian gentleman of the highest order. Our prayers are with you.

All of my time spent with Andy was enjoyable and interesting, thanks to him. One such time was his waiting for a sprinkling hose on the golf course to be moved - it was so far to the green I kidded him to just hit. Nope. Finally the guy drags that huge hose out of the way. 'Lefty', wood in hand, smacks a line-drive that lands and rolls right thru the exact place of the hose. Ball stops 6" from the hole....low side, of course. ANY questions? Nope, fab shot MR. R.

Best to all my...
