Phenix City, Alabama- Mr. Sumbry was born on May 26, 1938 in Phenix City, AL. He departed this life on February 26, 2015. He was the knee baby of six children born to the late M.C. and Lula F. Sumbry.
Funeral services for Mr. Sumbry will be 1:00pm Wednesday March 4, 2015 at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church, Columbus, Ga. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens, Phenix City. Visitation is 1-7pm today according to Battle & Battle Funeral Home.
Mr. Sumbry accepted Christ at an early age at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL. He later joined the Fourth Street Baptist Church where he served on the Partners in Christ Caring Ministry and the Golden Ages Ministry.
Mr. Sumbry attended the public school system in Phenix City, AL and retired from the Department of Housing and Urban Development as a Financial Operations Analyst, Washington, DC. Prior to HUD, Mr. Sumbry worked for the Maxwell Brothers Furniture Store and later the Overnight Transportation Company, Columbus, GA.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he leaves to cherish his precious life a deeply committed and caring wife, Gladys D. Griffin Sumbry. Devoted and caring children: Andre' F. Sumbry (Renee'), Christopher O. Sumbry and LaShawn S. Ford (Robert). 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. One brother, Chester Sumbry and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
