Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel - Wilmington Obituary

Andrezej Kswarey Lankosz of Wilmington, NC passed away September 15, 2022 at the age of 75. He was known to his family and friends as Yendric, a Polish given name. He was born April 4, 1947 in Maddiston, Scotland, United Kingdom. He was the son of Adam Romuald Lankosz of Zakopane, Poland and Isabella Maxwell McLay Lankosz of Maddiston, Scotland, United Kingdom. He was proud of his Polish and Scottish heritage. At the age of 10, he emigrated from Scotland and settled in Southeast Washington, D.C. Later moving to Northern Virginia and then to Wilmington, NC.

Yendric was a Vietnam War veteran, serving with the United States Army. Upon completion of his active military duty, he continued in civilian service as a Budget Analyst for the Department of Defense. He was proud of his military service and a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW.

Yendric was a devoted father and loved his Breeze. Family was central to who he was and his most loved role was keeper of the family. Family often gathered at his home for holidays, celebrations, and Redskins games. He took great joy in taking his family on vacations and outings like Ocean City, MD, annual Scottish Highland Games, sightseeing in Washington D.C. and the Blue Ridge mountains to name a few.

Yendric had the ability to make any situation just a little more interesting simply with his smile. It was bright with a slight hint of a mischievous nature. You couldn't stop yourself from smiling with him. Everyone knew when Yendric had arrived at the party. His antics could cause you to laugh till your side hurts or want to hide from embarrassment. Especially if you were one of his daughters. He was the fun Uncle and Grandfather.

He had a very generous heart, a gift giver. Yendric's generosity shone through in his contributions and service to various veterans, charities, churches, and nonprofit organizations.

Among his survivors are his spouse, Barbara Lankosz of 51 years; his children Audrey Foster (Wayne Jr.), Michele Rounds (Terry), and Laurie Lankosz; his grandchildren Jacob, Joshua, Alyssa, Ross and Ian; great grandchild Eleanor "Ellie"; his sibling Teresa “Charmaine” Cherry Mack (Joseph) and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Adam and Isabella Lankosz, and siblings James Marion “Masher” Lankosz, Tamara Jane Mabini, and Romuald “Romek” Lankosz.

A visitation will be held at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412 on Tuesday September 20th at 2 PM followed by funeral service at the same location at 3 PM.

A graveside service open to the public will be held Wednesday September 21st, promptly at 2 PM in Goldsboro, NC at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery located at 164 Longs Plant Farm Rd., Goldsboro, NC 27534.

Yendric’s wife and daughters offer a heartfelt thank you to the hospice care providers. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

Not sure what to say?

I love you uncle Yendric and I am so sorry you passed away. I remember everything you did for us and the times you made sad moments funny. I remember Vietnam Vietnam, how’s your cloaker?etc.. you are my favorite uncle by far and I will miss you very much!

I will light a candle today for you Dad. You will be in my heart always.
Remember Lord, those who have died and have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, especially those for whom we now pray. May these, and all who sleep in Christ, find in your presence light, happiness, and peace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

So sorry to hear the news of Yendrick's passing. May he rest in peace.
May God give you strength in the coming days and your precious memories give you comfort.
Teresa & Michael Ward

Please except our deepest condolences on the passing of AJ. I know he will be missed by all. May he rest in peace.

He was quite a character. When we first moved to Wilmington we went to dinner with he and Breeze and in the middle of the meal he got up and left the restaurant. When we were done and paid the bill he still had not returned but she was not concerned. We went out and started roaming the shops and she said he will find us don’t worry. And he certainly did!

Our deepest condolences to the whole family. May he watch over you all. God bless.
The Cumes Family
