Andy John Scott, affectionately known as AJ, was born on Pea Ridge in Arkansas in 1936. He was the second born of six children: Meutril Mailes, Miles L. Scott (deceased), Joana Sam, Taft W. Scott (deceased), and Larry G. Scott. He was the proud son of Taft William Scott and Miles L. Branch Scott (both deceased).
In 1946, as a 10-year-old, Andy and family moved to Oakwood Bile. He not only attended school there, but he also met his first love, Argie Lee Ward. Andy, his parents, and siblings then migrated to Blythe, California in 1953 with hopes of having a chance for better opportunities.
Andy was a protector and financial provider for his family; meaning if you needed him, he was there. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family--especially his mom and siblings because they always came first! At 5 years old he was working in the fields and picked 100lbs of cotton in one day by himself to support his family. A man of character, integrity, and strength--surely, that was Andy John Scott. From a young boy to an adult man, Andy was always one of the hardest workers around; but it was his family that motivated him to continue to do amazing things.
Andy married Argie Lee Ward in 1954 and they were married until she passed away at a very young age in October 1970. He then went on to re-marry two additional times--to Martha Jones and Sonjanetha Dixon.
Andy worked for the City of Blythe for several years until he was injured and had to retire. He then went on to become an entrepreneur. He kept his hands in real estate but was also a part owner in a nightclub with his wife at that time, Sonjanetha Dixon. Andy was also well known for his love of nice cars and being one of the best dressed men around.
Andy grew up in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (St. Johns) with his family and gave his life to Christ at a young age. Once he moved to Blythe, he continued in the AME denomination at Bethal AME Church where he served as an officer on the board of Trustees. Andy then later went on to Join St Paul Missionary Baptist church, were he served until he moved to San Bernardino County. Andy rededicated his life to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior in 1995 and became a member of Mt. Rubidoux Seventh Day Adventist Church in Riverside, CA. He later became a member of Valley Fellowship Seventh Day Adventist Church--where he had been a member of good standing until he passed away.
Andy lives graciously through his Five children and his one bonus son (step-son) Anthony Scott, La Vern Anise White (Elliott J. White: Spouse), (mother: Argie Lee Ward-Scott); Mozelle Yarbrough, Kenneth Scott, (mother: Emma Yarbrough); Tracy Scott-Jefferson (Elwood Jefferson: spouse), (mother: Martha Jones-Scott); Demond Meeks (mother: Sonjanetha Dixon-Scott), his eight grandchildren [ Anthony Scott, Jr., Amar Jamaal Scott, Nathaniel Scott (Yamiya Scott: spouse), Rochell Lee Scott, Chloe Anise White, Naomi Ellanise White, Talia Meeks, and Demond F. Meeks, Jr.], his ten great-grandchildren [Nathan Emanuel Scott, Naomi Grace Scott, Amiya Naomi Scott, Amar Jamaal Scott II, Zayla Helena Scott, Sierrah Scott, Azel Scott, Aspirit Scott, Keyonna Scott, and Antoinette Scott], his three surviving siblings [Meutril Mailes, Joana Sam, and Larry Scott], and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal… Rest well my handsome Father. You will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 30th from 5-8:00 p.m. at Frye Chapel. Funeral service will follow Tuesday morning, August 31st beginning at 10:00 a.m. also at Frye Chapel. Committal services will take place afterwards at Palo Verde Cemetery.
