Angela was the second child out of seven. I’m the eldest.
My sister was very pretty. The prettiest out of all the families. She had long thick Indian hair just like our Grandmother. The boys in elementary school would pull hair pretending they didn’t believe it was real. She won every beauty pageant she entered, starting with Miss May Day in elementary school.

Angela did not allow being burdened with sickle cell anemia hinder her. The doctor advised that she not have children....
