JOHNSONBURG - Angelo Butera, 95, of 789 First Ave., Johnsonburg, died Tuesday afternoon (March 8, 2016) at his residence after a short illness.
He was born on April 21, 1920, in Platania, Italy, a son of Luigi and Francesca Butera Butera. On Sept. 7, 1946, in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, he married Marie Antoinette Paladino, who died on Nov. 16, 1983.
Mr. Butera resided in Johnsonburg since 1932. He graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1941. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving overseas as a T-4 with the Service Battery of the 745th FA Battalion. He owned and operated Butera's Hardware Store in Johnsonburg since 1955. Mr. Butera had worked at the New York and Pennsylvania Co. for several years.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, where he was an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Johnsonburg Elks and VFW. He loved golfing and gardening.
Mr. Butera is survived by three sons, Edward (Yvonne) Butera of Cincinnati, Ohio, John (Therese) Butera of Dayton, Ohio, and Robert (Annette) Butera of Havertown; a daughter, Joan (Earl) Park of Johnsonburg; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Butera; and a sister, Mary Butera.
Visitation will be private. Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at noon Saturday at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, St. Marys, as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. Saturday.
Funeral arrangements under direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.
If desired, memorial contributions should be made to the Johnsonburg Servicemen Detail.

My deepest and sincere condolences to the Butera family. It was a true pleasure playing many rounds of golf with Ange and conversing with him in the store. He lived a great life. His memory will always be with us.
