Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Obituary

Angelo Nicholas Sarris, 64, died of natural causes on Christmas morning, December 25, 2017, at his private residence in Birmingham, Alabama.

Angelo is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ruth Sarris; his two stepsons, Craig Sanford and Kelly Sanford; his two grandchildren, Anna and Caroline Sanford; his eldest brother, Emmanuel Nicholas Sarris; five nieces and nephews as well as a myriad of close friends.

Born the youngest of four sons to Nicholas and Vasiliki Sarris in Piraeus, Greece on October 23, 1953, Angelo spent the first twelve years of his life in Greece with his parents and siblings, moving to Bessemer, Alabama in 1966. He graduated from Jess Lanier High School and moved to Fort Walton, Fl to accept a job at Eglin Air Force Base. After two years, Angelo returned to Birmingham, eventually going into the restaurant business with his brother George Sarris. In 1989, he became owner of Sarris Restaurant and continued as the owner/operator with his wife until his death.

Angelo was an avid bowler in his youth and had a genuine love for raising and training German Shepherds throughout his life. He was a devoted husband and grandfather, a loving brother and uncle, and a compassionate and generous friend.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30th, 2017, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL, with viewing form 12:00 - 1:00pm. Entombment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
