A Knack for Fitting In
Anil T. Bharvaney's personal geography knew no bounds. Born in Poona, India, he grew up in Kobe, Japan, went to college in San Jose, Calif., worked in New York and lived in East Windsor, N.J.

"He was at home with any culture," said Pandora Po Bharvaney, his wife, a Chinese immigrant who met Mr. Bharvaney at New York University. Wherever he was, she said, he fit in. "He was soft-spoken and could calm people down," she said. "That goes well with any culture."

He was unbounded in his interests, too. At 41, he was a senior vice president in equities trading at Instinet Corporation. On Sept. 11, he was attending a conference at Windows on the World. He liked to walk in the woods around his home and take photos. He was passionate about classical jazz, like John Coltrane. And he read philosophy, taking the Tao, the Chinese way of simplicity and selflessness, to heart. "He thought the more you give, the more you become richer," Ms. Bharvaney said. "He very much believed in it."

Not sure what to say?

such a proud human being

Remembering Anil on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...

May we all honor Anil's legacy by giving more to each other. Much love from Texas,

I walked a mile for you (mile #187) on 3/14/13 as a dedication to your life.

In Sept 2011, commemorative American flags, for the WTC vicitms, were placed on the hillside at Cannonsburg Ski Area in Rockford MI. I purchased the flag for Anil at the close of the event; it was on our flagpole in our yard until I took it down yesterday. I am sorry for your loss, and hope time has helped you keep the better and happy memories of Anil.

Was reading his legacy for school, and I would like to be part of carrying on the traits of diverse musical interests and calmness. Thank you for the inspiration.

To The Family,
All victims of 9/11 will always be remembered. I would like to express my deepest sympathy in the loss of your loved one, Mr. Anil T. Bharvaney. May the Almighty bring you genuine comfort eternally.
Sincerely,
Mr. Terry of NC

We had a remembrance service-"A Day of Honor" yesterday in my town. They had 600 flags with all the victims names on them. They made an American Flag made out of 6,000 fabric roses. On the back of each pair of roses was a victims name. We were able to pick a pair of roses if we wanted and I picked Anil's name. We are praying for the family members and friends who are still mourning his loss.
