Anita Louise Newell Bruner, 66, of Hartselle died Jan. 8, 2009, at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center, Emmitsburg, Md., after a long, courageous battle with heart disease.
Born Jan. 12, 1942, in Montgomery, she was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Simpler Newell; her stepfather, Arthur Earnest Newell; and one brother, Wilbur Claude “Bill” Newell.
She was the wife of the late David Allen Bruner. They were married July 17, 1961, and were together almost 25 years until his sudden death on July 14, 1986.
She was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery. Before retiring, she was employed as a bookkeeper and seamstress.
Three sons and their families survive her. David Shane Bruner of Huntsville, daughter-in-law, Julie Bruner of Hartselle, Daryl Earl Bruner and wife, L. Lee Royer, of Taneytown, Md., and Michael Tyler Bruner and wife, Lesa Riggs Bruner, of Harrisonburg, Va.
Anita’s grandchildren were the love of her life. Jordan Marie Bruner of Hartselle, Amanda Jo Bruner and Dixie Marie Bruner of Taneytown, Md.; and step-granddaughters, Carter Gibson and Jordan Gibson of Harrisonburg, Va.
A sister and brother survive her, Lynn Newell Post of Montgomery and Carl Andrew Newell Hansen of Orange, Mass.
Anita was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed handcrafts of all kinds. She was a longtime member of Westview Church of Christ. She will be fondly remembered by special friends, Barbara Buckelew, Jan Corum, Gail Hale, Gerry Jones, all of Hartselle, and Barbara Ray of Albertville.
The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with William “Bill” Hall presiding. Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.

Anita was like a second mother to me as a young child. I had the opportunity to hug her neck not to long ago when I seen her up town. She was a very sweet lady and will be missed by many!
