Ann Derrick

Ann Marie Berry Derrick COLUMBIA - Ann Derrick died November 23, 2017, after a seven year courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was the first child of Boyce and Ruby Berry of Spartanburg. Educated in the Spartanburg public schools, she graduated from Limestone College with a degree in social work. Her career as a social worker began first in Charleston, then Greenville, Birmingham and finally Columbia where she worked for 25 years in the Cooperative Ministry with the homeless and, later, as Director of their HIV/AIDs program. She is survived by Warren, her husband of 58 years; her three children, Andrea Truitt (Chip), Hope Derrick (Marc Turner), and Scott (Melissa); her six beloved grandchildren, Abby, Shelby and Rachel Truitt, Ethan and Emery Turner, and Tripp Derrick all of Columbia; and her brothers, Boyce Berry (Pat) of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Thom Berry (Shannon) of Columbia. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of SCOA for their compassionate care: Drs. Terry Smith and Will Merritt and, especially, to nurses Kathy Chavis and Mary Leitch. And special thanks to the staff of Palmetto Health Hospice, Shelley Webb, RN, Joy Jones MSW, and Sylvia Watkins. A private burial will be held at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church.
