Ann Loretta Tidwell, 75, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away in Pennsauken, NJ, on December 26, 2024.

Ann Loretta Tidwell, the youngest child of the late William and Anna Davis Tidwell, was born on December 23, 1949. On Thursday, December 26, 2024, following an extended illness, God granted her eternal rest and she ascended to her heavenly home.

She was educated in the public schools of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and graduated in the Class of 1968 from West Charlotte High School. She earned her associate’s degree from Central Piedmont Community College and worked in the prestigious firm of Chambers, Ferguson & Stein PA.

After relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she began her professional career as an Account Executive at Q102 Radio. For a brief time after the birth of her son, Alex, she operated a small daycare program in her home.

Because of her love of children, she returned to the education arena and earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Rutgers University-Newark. Later she earned a Certification in Special Education and began a teaching career at Yorkship Elementary School which she enjoyed until her retirement.

Throughout her life she maintained an abiding faith in Christ having been baptized at an early age at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Charlotte. She loved music and became an organist at her church often accompanying the junior choir and other choirs as needed. She joined St. John Baptist Church in Camden, New Jersey and remained active also in the music program there.

Loretta loved life and enjoyed traveling, music, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She was a strong and independent spirit and never forgot to laugh and share her joy and compassion for others, especially the elderly.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Isaiah, Willie, and Nathaniel Tidwell, and a sister, Lula Mae Ingram.

In addition to her son, Alexander Tidwell Cream, she is mourned by her sister-in-law, Hellena Huntley Tidwell; and nephews, W. DeVane Tidwell (Laura) and Damion L. Tidwell (Kristin). She is also mourned by a dear friend, Gregory Wright, and many special friends including Diane Jones, Jacqueline Johns, Reginald Thompson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
