Anna LaPorte Obituary

Anna Mancini LaPorte died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at home. She entered this world on April 7, 1926. She was born to Annunziata and Stanislao Mancini in the town of Affile, Italy. The family later moved to Rome, Italy, where she met and married Nick LaPorte, an American soldier stationed there during World War II. She came to America with many other war brides on a huge ship and landed in Louisiana, home to her husband's family. It would be many years before she returned to her beloved Italy. Anna loved people and especially children. For many years she was the caretaker of precious cargo (babies and toddlers) for First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge. She was a wonderful cook, an avid gardener and loved to shop. She usually was smiling with a twinkle in her eye. If there was something bothering her she would say, with her heavy accent, "If God closa da door, ah, then Mary opena da window!" She was loved dearly by family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Roseanna LaPorte; grandchildren, Autumn LaPorte Guarisco and husband, Anthony, Winston Kyle LaPorte, Robert Kole LaPorte; daughter-in-law, Tana Weiner LaPorte; sister, Elena Mancini; niece, Ninetta Ciccarelli and husband, Piero and nephew Othello Mancini. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Anna is preceded in death by her husband, Nick; her son, Joseph; her parents, and brothers and sisters, Mario, Italo, Ida, and Renata. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. Visitation will resume on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 749 East Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, from 11:00AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00PM. There will be a rosary recited at 11:30AM. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.greenoaksfunerals.com.

Maw maw I miss you so much, I loved every minute I spent with you. I know you are in a wonderful place with jo jo. You were the best cook and person I have ever known. If it was not for you I don't think my mom and autumn, rob and me would have made it when dad died. I love you so much and miss you just as much.

Your loving grandson,

The angels surely rejoiced when God brought her forth on earth. And continued as she loved the children and their families for so many years. She was an inspiration and an absolute wonder as she taught us all so much. Ms. Anna is now rejoicing with the angels. Alongside God in His glory, they welcomed her home. We lift you up in prayer as you miss her earthly presence in your lives. Thank you for sharing her with so many of us!!

Ms. Anna was such a loving, kind lady who helped raise my little ones at the FPC nursery on Sunday mornings. She also helped raise me as a new mom! We will always cherish the memories we have of Ms. Anna. God bless all of you.

RoseAnna and family, it has been a very long time since I have had the pleasure of seeing Ms. Annie. I can still remember the days when I was young and visited her with my grand mother and parents. I know that Jesus has her in his arms right where she should be. May she rest in peace with his love.

Mrs. LaPorte lived a very long, full, active life and brought her zest for life to those who knew her. What a joy it was for me to be in her company and listen to her speak with her beautiful accent and see her light up a room with her infectious smile! My love and prayers go out to Rose Anna, my cousin, Tana and her family and all those who will cherish the memory of this very special lady.

My dad and I had the oportunity this awesome woman. She was so polite, sweet, smart and a woman to imitate in many ways because she was a great cook, an animal lover who I used to see her early morning feeding the cats and the birds on the back yard. She'll be missed and We pray to the Lord to hug her with his beloved arms and take her to the eternity. Rest in peace, descanse en paz dona Ana, te extranaremos.
