Anna Mancini LaPorte

Anna Mancini LaPorte died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at home. She entered this world on April 7, 1926. She was born to Annunziata and Stanislao Mancini in the town of Affile, Italy. The family later moved to Rome, Italy, where she met and married Nick LaPorte, an American soldier stationed there during World War II. She came to America with many other war brides on a huge ship and landed in Louisiana, home to her husband's family. It would be many years before she returned to her beloved Italy. Anna loved people and especially children. For many years she was the caretaker of precious cargo (babies and toddlers) for First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge. She was a wonderful cook, an avid gardener and loved to shop. She usually was smiling with a twinkle in her eye. If there was something bothering her she would say, with her heavy accent, "If God closa da door, ah, then Mary opena da window!" She was loved dearly by family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Roseanna LaPorte; grandchildren, Autumn LaPorte Guarisco and husband, Anthony, Winston Kyle LaPorte, Robert Kole LaPorte; daughter-in-law, Tana Weiner LaPorte; sister, Elena Mancini; niece, Ninetta Ciccarelli and husband, Piero and nephew Othello Mancini. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Anna is preceded in death by her husband, Nick; her son, Joseph; her parents, and brothers and sisters, Mario, Italo, Ida, and Renata. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. Visitation will resume on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 749 East Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, from 11:00AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00PM. There will be a rosary recited at 11:30AM. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
