Obituary

Anna Pardee, a longtime resident of Laurel, passed away July 3, 2007, at St. John's Lutheran Home, where she had been a resident for the past five years. She was 96 years old.
Anna was born in Lewistown on June 8, 1911, the oldest of six children, to Joseph and Mary Plovanich. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural schools and graduated from the eighth grade. Although she could not continue her formal education, she was a very smart lady who continued learning things all her life.
She married George Zagar, Oct. 29, 1929, and they had five children. Mr. Zagar died in an accident in September 1946. She married Philip Pardee in Helena in November 1948 and they had one daughter. Mr. Pardee passed away in December 1967.
Anna was an avid reader and loved to play cards, bingo and do crossword puzzles. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to crochet afghans for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Laurel Sr. Center and St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Laurel.
She is survived by her daughters, Isabel Nelson (Walter) of Helena, June Kraske of Seattle, Annabelle Lane (Robert) of Billings and Phyllis Simpson of Volcana, Calif.; and son Eugene Zagar of Great Falls. She is also survived by one sister, Mary Miller of Helena; and 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brothers Joe, Tom and Andrew Plovanich; sister Jenny Thomason; daughter Evelyn Zagar Nichwander; daughter-in-law Shirley Zagar; grandson George Zagar; and son-in-law Weaver Simpson.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. John's Lutheran Home of Billings for all the excellent care they have given Anna over the past five years.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned, per Anna's request.
Should friends desire, memorials can be made to St. Johns Lutheran Home or charity of choice.
