Dennis Funeral Home - New Orleans Obituary

Anna Rose Riley was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at the age of 93. She was born on May 30, 1923 to Alex and Christine Mayberry of Vidalia, Louisiana, and she attended Concordia Parish Training School.

Anna Rose accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in 1940 by Reverend A.C. Washington at St. Stephen's Baptist Church in Vidalia. She grew to become a caring young lady who loved helping others. She enjoyed talking to and caring for the elderly in her community and delighted in cooking, growing flowers, feeding the birds, taking walks, and reading her daily devotionals. She spent years as a domestic worker in Vidalia, New Orleans, Arizona, and California. Later, she returned home and was employed by the Concordia School Board Food Service Department.

Anna Rose was a member of Rising Star Baptist Church in Metairie, Louisiana for over twenty years. She was an active member of the deaconess board, Sunday school, and Bible study. Mother Riley brought much wisdom and life to the congregation, motivating everyone around her.

Anna Rose Riley's love and legacy will carry on through her children, Arthur (Margie) Mayberry of Seattle, Washington; Charles (Mary) Ferguson of Vidalia, Louisiana; Wilton (Bobbie) Eldridge, Sr. of Antioch, Tennessee; Aretha (Malcolm) Williams of Marrero, Louisiana; Anna (Eugene) Franklin of Kenner, Louisiana; and Orlando Riley of Muskegon, Michigan; a sister, Dorothy Rose Brown of Los Angeles, California; a god-brother, Joseph James of Kenner, Louisiana; and a host of grandchildren, great grand children, cousins, nieces, nephews, and devoted neighbors and friends.

The service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 10:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM, at Rising Star Baptist Church, 1350 S. Laurel Street, Metairie, LA 70003, Pastor Donald Brown officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Dennis Funeral Home.
