She was a woman of her time; she was a woman far ahead of her time. Anne Foster passed peacefully on January 25, 2025 (International Women's Day, fittingly) at the age of 96, and left a legacy of helping hundreds of young women prepare for a better life ahead. Raised in a farming community in...

Not sure what to say?

I'm just now learning about the passing of my good friend Anne. I worked at Hearthstone during her years living there and we became fast friends. She was an incredible and extraordinary person in every single way. She was genuinely interested and invested in me and in my success. She listened, she cared, and offered some of the best lessons and advice I've received. One of my favorite things she taught me, that I still repeat to this day, was that after any experience, be it good or bad, say...

When I was new to Portland in 1968 and was in the sewing industry as an educator Ann was so encouraging and always supportive with a smile. I didn't know much about her background until now. What an amazing person and no wonder I still can envision her smile after all of these years. She was right up there with Emma Rogeness, home economist for Pendleton Woolen Mills, in encouraging young women, especially we OSU graduate home economists.

Farewell Too Soon Bouquet

My mom, Muriel Walker MvFarland, always admired and respected Anne for her contributions to all women;uplifting and encouraging them to believe in themselves with confidence. She was also truly interested in each person she encountered as she always asked about my own family, career and endeavors. Anne was a powerful and positive force in so many of our family members!

Anne was my most loyal, supportive friend for almost 45 years. We shared a passion for quilts, quilt history, and American history. Her wisdom and expertise contributed greatly to our shared activities. If I suggested a project, she was always eager to participate whether it was in the quilt world or the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Oregon. It was an honor to be her friend and to own a Teddy bear she made for me.

I have many fond memories of Anne while growing up in our amazing neighborhood. From sewing lessons in her basement, neighborhood New Year Eve parties, pie crust lessons in her kitchen all the way to fixing my wedding dress before the big day! She was such a fun friend of our family and a really good friend to our mom Fayetta. Thank you for loving our family Anne!

Wow Scott, what a magnificent and meaningful life your Mom lived. And I must add, in addition to all the women throughout the decades that she educated and supported, she instilled her knowledge, wisdom and her values in her son ( I imagine your brother as well). Again, my deepest condolences to you and all of Anne's family
