Anne Schaefer Obituary

Anne Schaefer

Crestwood - Anne Weldon Schaefer, 79, of Crestwood, passed away on March 31, 2020, of complications from Covid-19.

Anne was born in New York City on August 8, 1940, to Edward Weldon and Alicia Ferris.

Brilliant, kind, and funny, she was a fiercely loving mother, a wonderful wife, an adoring grandmother, and a friend to many.

Anne spent her career as an educator in the Scarsdale school district. She began teaching in 1962 at Quaker Ridge. In the 1980s, she co-founded (with Steven Frantz) the Science, Math, Technology Center at Scarsdale Middle School, a prototype of what would now be called a STEAM maker-space. Later, she became the district's first Math Helping Teacher, supporting K-5 teachers to develop their skills in math instruction. After retiring in 2002, she became an innovative textile artist, working out of the Weaving Center in Tarrytown, NY. Anne put her all into everything she did, especially her role as mother.

She is survived by her husband Charles, to whom she was married for 53 years, her loving children Karine and Eric, her grandchildren James and Allison, her brother Edward Weldon, and her sister Mary Weldon Darling.

A celebration of Anne's life will be held in the fall or spring, with details announced at a later date. Those interested may email AnneSchaefer [email protected] to be added to the mailing list for information about the event or to share memories or condolences.

I have many memories of my Aunt Anne - all wonderful. She was wonderfully witty, and highly intelligent, though not at all snobbish. As I look back, what I recall most is a person who would make you feel like the most special person in the world whenever you were in her presence. She would give her entire attention to what you had to say, regardless of how trivial, and would relate in her no-nonsense, sincere way, leaving you with the feeling that she genuinely cared about whatever you were talking about. I will miss her humor, her laugh and witty remarks, and her genuine, caring persona. Rest in peace, Aunt Anne! We love you!

As a friend and colleague of Charles, my condolences to her family and friends. I know you will miss her presence. I know her absence will always leave a hole, and from my own losses, know the warm memories help to fill that space. Blessings on you all. Linda
