Anne honored me by asking me to officiate at her father's funeral. I had loved going with her from Cleveland out to the family's 1820's (?) home in the country. Talking there ("in that old rude-furnished room"-Whittier) with her father about books was always a quiet pleasure.

Anne was one of my favorite friends--she even cared enough about me to visit when I lived in California! I loved her "spicy" speech, her house like mine full of books and a refrigerator full of --well--aging food. Her work for justice inspired me to be a better person.
