Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

Annette Martha Nowak (Yonan), 84, of Swartz Creek, passed away October 6, 2025.

Annette was born September 26,1941, in Flint, Michigan, the youngest child of Mishael and Marguerite (Solomon) Yonan. She attended Flint schools and graduated from Flint Central High School in 1959. After high school she remained in Flint and spent time working at State Mutual Insurance Company and pursued a cosmetology license at Mr. David’s Beauty School, both with her beloved and longtime friend Carol. They also attended keypunch school together, which Annette put to use when she began her employment with General Motors. She was initially hired at Chevrolet Flint Assembly and retired from General Motors Service and Parts Operations in Swartz Creek in 1992, with over twenty-five years of service. She then embarked on her next career, working at Hudson’s, one of her favorite stores. She had a lot of fun at her job, especially when she worked with her sister and made many friends who enjoyed countless gambling trips together.

She loved having company, cooking and caring for those she loved. She made the best cheesy potatoes, and her orange pineapple cake was legendary. She also loved watching her favorite sports teams, both on television and in person. She was the Pistons’ biggest fan, with MSU and her Lions not far behind.

She is survived by her children, Michele and Michael (Bryce); niece and nephew, Amy (Jim) and Eddie; great-nephews, Andrew and Matthew; great-nieces, Kyndra and Kaylee; brother-in-law, John; sister-in-law, Donna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mishael and Marguerite, special aunt Elsie Thomas, and her beloved siblings, Edward and Marian.

The family of Annette extends a very sincere thank you to the owners and staff of Angie’s Residential Care in Warren, Michigan.

Visitation will take place at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, on Wednesday, October 8, from 3pm-8pm, with a tribute service held at 7pm.

Funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday, October 9, at the Assyrian Church of the East, 3112 Lewis Street, Flint, with Reverend Ameer Brikha officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Assyrian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Assyrian Church of the East.
