Annette Marie Peterson, daughter of John Henry and Ingrid Dorothy (Peterson) Duhn, was born April 2, 1955 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  She received her education in Emmetsburg, graduating from Emmetsburg High School in 1973.

Following graduation Annette went to work at Berkley’s in Emmetsburg.  In 1974 she was united in marriage to Robert Nock.  They were blessed with four children.  Annette later married Jerry Peterson in 1990 and they were blessed with a daughter.

Annette was a devoted homemaker caring for her family for most of her life.  Most recently she was employed at Willow Tree Garden Center in Emmetsburg where she designed floral arrangements.

Annette was an active member of the Sarah Church Circle at Bethany Lutheran Church.  She also helped with the Scandinavian Tea for many years and participated in Bible Studies.  She was a member of the Emmetsburg Garden Club, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Palo Alto County Arts Council and she participated in the Emmetsburg Municipal Band.

Annette loved doing crafts and decorating her home.   She was active in the 90’s with many craft shows throughout Iowa  as well as the last 5 years in local shows.  Annette was a talented artist, using a variety of mixed media.   She was known for her painted bricks, Amish dolls and most recently gnomes which started from fabric that wasn’t able to be used in her Monday night sewing group.  She made the gnomes as Christmas gifts for the group.  Annette enjoyed taking trips with her friends. Her favorite store was IKEA which she affectionately named “The Mothership”.

Annette passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 68.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ingrid Duhn; an infant grandchild; and her partner, Verne Smith.

She is survived by her children, Jason (Crystal) Nock of Spencer, Iowa, Nicole (A.J.) Poeppe of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Nathan (Hannah) Nock of Mason City, Iowa, Ashley Mae Nock of Sioux City, Iowa and Jessica (Aaron) Porte of West Lafayette, Indiana; five grandchildren, Annika, Mariah, August, Jaxson, and Connor; siblings, Grant Duhn of Wallingford, Iowa, Wendell (Judi) Duhn of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Joyce (John) Froisland of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Brian (Erin) Duhn of Emmetsburg, Iowa and James (Renee) Duhn of Fort Dodge, Iowa; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Not sure what to say?

I am so sorry to hear of Annette's passing. Have fond memories of growing up as neighbors, riding the bus together, and 4-H club. I have a set of her painted bricks on my window sill that I got when she came to Jefferson for a craft show. She was a fun person to be around. Thoughts and prayers for all her family.

Annette was such a kind and thoughtful person. I always enjoyed visiting with her at Willow Tree. My heart goes out to all of the family at this sad time. She was one of a kind and will be missed.

Shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden passing of this precious lady!

Sending our sympathies to all of Annette's family. She was a kind and sweet person, and always had a happy 'hello' when we were back in Emmetsburg. Lots of memories from our high school years. Our prayers are with all the family during this time.

God gave us memory that we might have roses in December...may the wonderful memories you have as a family comfort and and give you courage in the days ahead. Annette will be missed by all who knew her. Our deepest sympathy, Nancy Cozine and family

I will cherish the times we had together and built a friendship that will forever stay close in my heart. See you in the other side PS: I’ll bring the wine! Much love
